FASHION: ROCKING THE CHIC 70S TREND

We love how fashion is such a magpie; the way that every season our favourite designers flick through the archives to give their modern take on classic looks from the past.

Over the past couple of years, style’s time machine seems to have remained firmly rooted in the 1970s. Despite its reputation as the “decade that style forget”, we’ve embraced a look inspired by the uber glitzy Studio 54 with a host of jumpsuits, lurex and sequins.

And while the undisputed glamour of the 70s remains for AW11, the look leaves the disco behind and is much more about daytime chic.

Shown on the catwalks at Chloe, Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs, it’s the silver screen sirens – Ali McGraw, Farah Fawcett, Cheryl Tiegs and Margaux Hemingway – we’re looking to for inspiration.

Classy and gorgeously feminine, opt for wide-legged trousers teamed with silk print blouses, two-tone dresses and fake fur. A retro satchel and tottering wedges are the hero pieces to complete the look.
