WHAT'S ON: LATEST MARK OF EXCELLENCE

Yes, we're celebrating again ... this time for winning a much-coveted TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence. This prestigious honour has been handed to our Second Floor Restaurant for the consistently high ratings and quality reviews on the travel website.

To achieve the TripAdvisor® excellence award, businesses need to maintain an average rating of four or higher out of a possible five – the Second Floor gained an impressive average of 4.5, putting us in the top 5% of establishments reviewed across the world.

It’s the latest accolade for Head Chef Louise McCrimmon and her team, as they have recently received a second AA Rosette as well as an AA Notable Wine List Award.

Our recent TripAdvisor® updates include: “The food was exquisite and highly enjoyable. The presentation was very appealing and it was cooked to perfection”; while another user wrote: “I've had the pleasure of eating here a few times and each time the food and service have been excellent.”

NEW IN: A TIMELY FASHION STATEMENT

TRIWA - Ebony Twist Brasco Chronograph watch    TRIWA - Turtle Twist Brasco watch

We love a classy timepiece, and let's face it, they don't come much classier than this! New in this month is the striking range of watches from cult Swedish brand TRIWA. The fashion-forward collection takes its inspiration from laid back Italian style as well as contemporary artists Yves Klein and Keith Haring.

TRIWA – which stands for Transforming the Industry of Watches – was founded in Stockholm in 2006 by a group of four friends who wanted to create playful, unpretentious and unfussy timepieces that can be worn regardless of the occasion.

Using traditional designs and watch faces, TRIWA adds a modern twist with high-tech materials and statement colours. Our favourite has to be the Brasco Twist, pictured, with its double wrap organic leather strap. Prices start from £190.

NEWS: PACKING THE PERFECT SUITCASE!

There is a fine art to packing – you have to resist taking all your worldly belongings with you but at the same time you don’t want to spend your holiday dressed in nothing but a swimming costume and flip flops. Here's our advice on packing the perfect suitcase.

1: Apply the three-in-one rule: For every bottom you pack, take three tops to create different looks. Take four bottoms at the most for a week-long holiday and five for a fortnight away.

2: No more than three pairs of shoes – no matter how long the trip: If you’re going somewhere hot you just need a pair of pretty flip flops, some dressy sandals and a pair of comfortable pumps for sightseeing.

3: Dresses are ideal for a capsule wardrobe: Take light dresses that can be scrunched into the corner of your case. Take three at the most –a beach dress and two dressier ones.

4: Accessories are a fantastic way to add wow: A great way to add va va voom to a wardrobe of basics. Oversized sunglasses add Jackie O glamour while wooden necklaces rock tribal chic. Pack small items in your shoes to keep them safe and to save room.

5: Lay everything out on your bed before you pack and then halve it: Sounds brutal but you’ll be relieved when you’re lugging your case in the heat. Besides, you can always use the hotel laundry to ensure your clothes go further.
