FASHION: ROCKING THE CHIC 70S TREND

We love how fashion is such a magpie; the way that every season our favourite designers flick through the archives to give their modern take on classic looks from the past.

Over the past couple of years, style’s time machine seems to have remained firmly rooted in the 1970s. Despite its reputation as the “decade that style forget”, we’ve embraced a look inspired by the uber glitzy Studio 54 with a host of jumpsuits, lurex and sequins.

And while the undisputed glamour of the 70s remains for AW11, the look leaves the disco behind and is much more about daytime chic.

Shown on the catwalks at Chloe, Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs, it’s the silver screen sirens – Ali McGraw, Farah Fawcett, Cheryl Tiegs and Margaux Hemingway – we’re looking to for inspiration.

Classy and gorgeously feminine, opt for wide-legged trousers teamed with silk print blouses, two-tone dresses and fake fur. A retro satchel and tottering wedges are the hero pieces to complete the look.

FASHION SHOW: AW11 ON THE CATWALK

We'll be unveiling the very latest looks for the new season at our fashion show next month. Held at the impressive M Shed Museum and sponsored by Land Rover, the catwalk event will be staged on Tuesday September 13 from 7.30pm-9pm.

Models will showcase the latest arrivals from the likes of Alexander McQueen, MaxMara, Diane Von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci.

Located on the historic dockside, M Shed is an exciting and innovative new museum that tracks Bristol’s history, from prehistoric times to the present day. The former 1950s transit shed has been turned into the showpiece exhibition space and its urban industrial feel makes it an exciting backdrop to the fashion show.

During the evening Land Rover will also have a range of cars on display, including the striking new Evoque.

Tickets cost £20, to include a Champagne reception on arrival and a luxury goody bag. Guests will also receive a 10% discount card for fashion and accessory purchases until September 20. Tickets can be purchased by calling 0117 916 8888 or in store.
